Betty B. Lyon

LYON - Betty Ray Lyon, age 92, of Social Circle, Georgia, passed away October 20, 2025. Betty was the proud founder and owner of both Dekalb Beauty College and Decatur University of Cosmetology. Through her decades of dedication, she empowered thousands of students to find confidence, creativity, and success in their craft. Beyond her professional achievements, Betty was a woman of deep reflection and rich memory. She was a published author of Winding Round The Square, a tender and vivid account of her childhood in the rolling hills of Hayesville, North Carolina. Her writing captured the heart of a time gone by and shared it with readers in a way only she could-graceful, poignant, and true. Betty had a lifelong love of horses, finding joy and peace in their presence. Though she wore many hats throughout her life, none brought her greater joy than being "Mimi." Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and her pride in them was boundless. Betty was preceded in death by her husbands, James Quenton Lyon & Charles Thompson; her parents Fred & Carrie (Cearly) Benedict; and brothers Ray & Edwin Benedict. She is survived by her daughter Alisa Lyon of Social Circle, GA; grandchildren Matt (Allie) Sullins of Braselton, GA & Shelby Puckett of Peachtree City, GA; great grandchildren Piper, Blakely, Roman, & Marlow Sullins; and Chatham, Savannah, & Xander Puckett.
