Betty Lou Red Bird was born on July 18, 1945, in Wanblee, SD to Thomas Royal Bad Cob and Annie Rose (Moves Camp) Bad Cob. Betty made her journey to the Spirit World on June 30, 2025, at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Betty earned her GED while living in Portland, OR, after returning to Wanblee she went on to study Early Childhood Education at EN College Center. After earning her degree, kickstarting her career as a Headstart Pre-school teacher until she retired many years later. After retirement, she enjoyed a leisure life with Abel across the creek, together they liked going to the Casinos, relaxing at home, taking the occasional out of town trips, and loved when people would drop in on them.
Betty Lou is survived by her sons, Gerald (Tammy) Whipple and Brian Lee (Mia) Herrald; daughter, Sethrine High Horse; brother, Patrick Eagle Staff; hunka brother, Ronald (Becky) "Beef" Randall; grandchildren, Makyla Bad Cob, Tyson Bad Cob, Josh Bad Cob, Dew Bad Cob, Sarah (Terez) Dunklin, Arnold Caddell, Jr., Amelia Caddell, Donovan Ashley, Jr., Davon Whipple, and Aliya Herrald.
Betty Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Abel Red Bird; parents, Thomas Royal Bad Cob and Annie Rose Bad Cob; son, Sidney Keith Whipple; daughter, Tracy Cheryl Whipple; and grandchildren, David Whipple, Aijenea Everett, Jakayla Young, and Mystic Rose Bad Cob.
Pallbearers will be Roy Blue Legs, Frank Rogers, Jr Decory, Ronald "Beef" Randall, Sky Chasing Horse, Kyle Horned Eagle, Tristan Terkildsen, and Keith Brown.
