Betty Jean Washer, 74, of 6152 Drum Road passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born November 5, 1936 in Olean the daughter of Lewis and Bethman (Weidner) Vaughn. On February 1, 1973 in Wellsville she married Wilfred Washer Jr. who predeceased her on August 14, 1998.
Betty was raised in Allentown by Pete and Jessie Wilson, and was a graduate of Mount Diablo High School in Concord, California. She attended Southwestern University in Chula Vista, CA. She was employed as a nurse's aid in Concord, CA and later at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. She was also employed for 31 years as bus driver for Scio Central School, retiring in 2003.
She was a member of the Allentown United Methodist Church, M. Eva Williams Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #192 in Belmont, The Genesee Valley Chorus, the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and was president of CSCA at Scio Central School.
Betty is survived by 2 sons: Charles A. Thompson Jr. of Allentown, Kevin D. (Arla) Thompson of Powhatan, VA, 3 stepsons: Luther (Sharon) Washer of Allentown, Michael (Becky) Washer of Ellington, NY, Joseph Washer of Hornell, 5 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 1 brother: Robert (Rose) Bixby of Fayetteville, NC, 1 sister: Sandra (Thomas) Smith of Concord, NC, a daughter-in-law, Sue (John) Hanbach of Allentown as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by 1 son: Kevin Patrick Thompson in 1955 and 1 grandson: Dustin Washer in 1997.
Friends are invited to call on Friday, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral will be Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Allentown United Methodist Church with Pastor Vickie Hedlund presiding. Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Portville, NY.
