Betty Wheeler

Betty Lou Dougherty Wheeler, age 84, of Erie, passed away Friday, August 15, 2025. She was born in Erie on June 13, 1941, daughter of the late Francis and Mary Patterson Dougherty. Betty was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School and was employed at St. Vincent before retiring from VanDeKamp. She was a faithful member of St. James R.C. Church for more than 20 years. Betty had a talent for sewing and crocheting, which she greatly enjoyed. Above all, she will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, whose love and dedication enriched the lives of her family. Betty is survived by five children, James Wheeler, Michael Wheeler (Pam), Beth Wisniewski (David), Tricia Bryson (Bob) and Robert Wheeler (Dee Karns); Tim Criscione, who was like a son to Betty; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Carlie (Clark), Keith (Charli), Thomas (Meagan), Lyndsey and Benjamin (Shelbi); one sister-in-law, Patricia Dougherty; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Thomas Dougherty; and daughter-in-law, Amy Wheeler. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Tuesday, August 19th, from 4 to 7 pm and are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. James R.C.
