Beulah "Boots" Beatriss Mays, born July 29, 1936, in Big Branch, Roth, VA, passed on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at her home. She was a graduate of Grundy High School. Boots was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Walter "Whitey" Mays; daughter, Belinda Mays Gubala; and parents, Hansel L. Dawson and Pattie R. Horn Stiltner.
Survivors include daughters, Pamela Herman and husband Audie of Bristol, TN, Angela Turner of Bristol, VA, Mitzi Hughes and husband Henry of Greenville, VA; son, Nathanial Mays of Bristol, VA; grandchildren, Derek Loudy, Brad Loudy, Melissha Herman, La Tasha Kirkpatrick and husband Adrian Becerra, Michael Kirkpatrick, Carena Kirkpatrick, Jared Keesee, Tristan Kennedy, and Jonathan Gubala; great grandchildren, Anthony "Xander" Loudy, Savannah Treadway, Dera Loudy, Demi Loudy, Dane Loudy, Gianna Becerra, Freddy Golden; siblings, Gaynell Short, Ruth Carroll, Berchie Rafferty, Erma Johnson, Roy Stiltner, Graham Dawson, Britt Stiltner, Kermit Stiltner, and Curtis Stiltner.
Boots worked as a phone operator in Dayton, OH and a waitress in Grundy, VA. She and Whitey ran theaters in Haysi, VA and Saltville, VA before becoming owners/operations of the Moonlite Drive-in Theater in Abingdon, VA from 1965-1992.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2023, in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Don Page officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
