Beverly “Joan” Brasher, 82, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025. Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on July 3, 1942, Joan lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys that brought people together.
A proud graduate of Louisiana State University, Joan had a sharp mind and a lifelong love of language. She especially enjoyed the challenge and camaraderie of a good game of Scrabble, and was an enthusiastic member of her local Scrabble club. Whether she was laying down a high-scoring word or simply enjoying the company of fellow word-lovers, the game brought her joy and connection.
Joan was also passionate about music and dancing—never one to sit still when a good tune was playing, she brought energy and fun to every gathering.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Command Sergeant Major Thomas E. Brasher; her daughter, Mary C. Brasher; her father, Colonel Joseph B. Lowrance; her mother, Catherine L. Ingram; and her brother, Charles Nash.
She is survived by her loving sister, Stephanie L. Castner (Gary); her sons, Thomas M. Brasher (Stephanie) and Stephen W. Brasher (Krista); her grandchildren, Victoria L. Brasher, Thomas D. Brasher, and Charlotte J. Brasher; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will cherish her memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joan’s memory to Hospice Specialists of Louisiana, PO Box 7550, Metairie, LA 70010-7550. Donations may be noted on the memo line of the check.
The family offers their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff of Hospice Specialists of Louisiana and West Towne Assisted Living for their attentive care and kindness in Joan’s final days.
Joan will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
