Beverly Sue Cantini was born in Galveston, Texas on September 15, 1935, to Vera and Walter E. Pennington, Sr. and entered eternal rest on January 22, 2025 at the age of 89. Sue lived life to the fullest with immense faith and tremendous love for her family and friends.
Sue graduated from Ursuline High School in 1953 where she enjoyed her role as Drum Major in the Drum and Bugle Corp. After graduating from Ursuline, Sue married Joseph Samuel Fertitta, Sr. and began her life as a devoted wife. Over the next several years she became a mother to five children, fulfilling her life-size dream of family.
In 1986, Sue married Clarence C. Cantini and spent the next thirty years embracing her extended family, church activities, and travel. She especially enjoyed the trips she and Clarence made to Hawaii and Italy along with a beautiful Alaskan cruise.
Sue worked for many years as an executive assistant in the commercial real estate and banking industries in Houston and Galveston, retiring in 1998.
Serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and on the parish council at St. Peter's Catholic Church along with membership and leadership in the Serra Club of Galveston were roles Sue dearly treasured. In 2007, she was honored with the Frank J. Metyko Award for Outstanding Serran – Serra District 10 and served as Governor of Serra District 10 Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston 2008-2010. Sue was also a member of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
St. Mary's Seminarians also held a special place in Sue's heart. She enjoyed supporting and encouraging them in various ways, especially sending Christmas greetings each year from the Serra Club of Galveston.
Sue's greatest passion was caring for and serving others all while sharing the light of Jesus. Her heart smiled as she offered blessings to family, friends, and caregivers always ending with her most endearing declaration "Jesus, I trust in You." She blessed others as often as possible and was equally blessed by family and friends throughout her life.
Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence C. Cantini; her mother, Vera Cleator and husband, Phil; her father, Walter E. Pennington, Sr. and wife, Vivian; her daughter, Susan Fitzhugh and husband, Richard Fitzhugh, daughter, Claudia Hinojosa, and granddaughter, Claire Cantini.
