Bill Hassan Hamit, a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully , after a long hard fight against multiple myeloma, on September 16, 2025, at the age of 83 to the late Hassan and Zera Hamit. Bill was married to his wife Charlotte for 61 wonderful years and was well loved by her and all his family. He graduated from Washington High School in 1959 where he was a well known greaser in the auto mechanics class. Bill then drove a delivery truck for RC Cola until he pursued his dream of being a Massillon Police Officer in 1967. After 21 years on the force, he served five years as the city’s safety-service director, two years as a deputy Stark County clerk of courts, held a seat on the City Council At-Large, and was elected city treasurer from 1997 until 2003. Then in 2003, Bill was elected to his final job of a four year term as city auditor for the city of Massillon.

Bill was well known and loved throughout the city by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a strong provider for his family and taught them the importance of kindness, hard work, and respect. Bill loved taking vacations to Myrtle Beach, Disney World, Niagara Falls and especially to The Villages with his wife Charlotte. He enjoyed tinkering in his workshop, completing puzzles, solving Sudoku, and playing Solitaire. Any person that had an encounter with Bill Hamit can say they left a better person.

He is survived by his wife Charlotte, his sister Betty Wingerter, children Rick (Brenda) Hamit, Michelle (Nick) Sinay, and Renee (Brian) DeLong-Parr, grandchildren, Trisha Sinay (in California), Bruce (Meredith) Hamit, Todd Hamit (in Colorado), Joey Sinay, Jennifer (Austin) Whisman, Dillon DeLong (Taylor Pipero), and three step grandchildren Lauren (Sam) Winkler (in South Carolina), Brett (McLean) Parr and Paige Parr (in Virginia). His family continues to grow with great grandchildren Mason and Camden Hamit, Sophia Whisman, and Will and Sullivan Winkler. Along with his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother Luan Hamit and grandson Jesse Sinay.

Family and friends are invited to honor Bill’s life during a visitation at Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Homes, on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and on Monday, Sept. 22, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
