Bill Hugh Jones of Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the age of 87. He was born in McLoud, Oklahoma, on October 11, 1935, to William A. Jones and Allie (Gardner) Jones.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War where he was a medical supply specialist and drove an ambulance. Throughout the years, he owned and operated a dump truck service and worked for the David Swift water well drilling company and the Shady Nook auto salvage company. He was best known for buying and selling antiques. Besides being a picker, Bill was a very talented craftsman and created a unique walking cane. He would search the woods for just the right piece of wood for the stick; use a doorknob for the handle; then carve and paint a cowboy boot to put on the bottom of the stick. No two were ever alike! Bill was well known at the Shawnee Citizen Center and had not missed any of the banquets in over 21 years. He was also a longtime member of the Heart Street Full Gospel Church in Shawnee.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Jones; parents, William and Allie; eight sisters and three brothers.
Surviving loved ones are daughters, Janet Keever and husband, Bill, of Stroud, OK and Sheila Jones of Shawnee, OK; son, Billy Jones of Kokomo, Indiana; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorene Honeywell, Becky Houser and Alta Jo Thrower; brother, Carl Jones; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be held: 10:00 am on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Hart Street Full Gospel Church, 618 Hart St., Shawnee, Oklahoma 74801.
A second memorial service will be held: 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Shawnee Senior Recreation Center (Event Room), 401 N. Bell Ave., Shawnee, Oklahoma 74801.
