Billy met the love of his life in 1961 while attending Arab High School. After two years of courtship, they married in Georgia and welcomed their daughter, Connie in 1963. He graduated from Auburn University in 1965 with a bachelor's degree in engineering, and their son, Greg, was born in 1967. Together, they moved around to several places, finally settling in Jacksonville, where Billy began his work building Stonybrook golf course. He also worked with Rust Engineering Company and Blunt Brothers Construction Company and played a vital role in the design and development of several major projects, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He found great pride and fulfillment in his work, eventually retiring from Turner Construction Company. Even in retirement, Billy continued to lend his talents by helping his son with his business, Brannon Machine and Die.
Billy had a lifelong love for the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He was an avid Braves fan and rarely missed watching a game with his wife. Known for his resourcefulness, he could fix just about anything-often with his trusty two-part epoxy. Billy had a gift for teaching, especially when it came to showing his children and grandchildren how to drive. He rarely missed a ball game or event involving his family, and he treasured time spent cheering them on. For a few years, he bowled on a team with his children, humorously named "The Weakest Link." Above all, Billy cherished his family and was happiest surrounded by those he loved, especially his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Papa."
He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather and he will be missed.
