Billy Stiefer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bowser Family Funeral Home - Broken Bow on Dec. 19, 2025.
Billy Gene Stiefer, age 89, of Mena, Arkansas, died on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at his home. He was born on Tuesday, April 7, 1936 to Arthur Phillip Stiefer and Lillian Mae Harrison Stiefer in Kaufman, Texas.

Bill was a quiet and reserved man whose depth of care, warmth, and gentle humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him. In 1955, Bill graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas, TX. After high school, he enlisted in the Army and served 8 years between active duty and the Army Reserves. He joined Collins Radio in 1959 and never looked back, working full-time for the company for 34 years through different iterations, including Rockwell International and Alcatel. An accomplished electrical engineer, he earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and his master's degree from the University of Texas at Dallas, applying his knowledge not only in his career but also in his love for creating and fixing things around the house. Wholly devoted to his family, Bill loved them immensely and took great care to ensure they always had what they needed. He cherished time spent reading and even kept a detailed spreadsheet of every book he read, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and in his younger years found joy in the outdoors and travel, including a memorable trip to Hawaii with his beloved wife, Barbara, to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. Bill rededicated his life to Christ in 2001 and was a faithful member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in The Colony, Texas, and First Presbyterian Church of Mena. Above all, he treasured his family deeply and found special joy in spending time with his grandson, a love that will remain part of his enduring legacy.

He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Alice (Stogner) Stiefer, parents Arthur and Lillian Stiefer; Step-Mother Naomi Stiefer, brothers Arthur Wayne Stiefer and Phillip Stiefer and his sister, Melody Crabb, grandmother Georgia King, his Aunt Faye, and a number of uncles, aunts and cousins.

Bill is survived by one son and daughter in law, William Eugene "Wes" and Patricia Lynn "Tricia" Stiefer of Mena; one grandson, William "Wes" Eugene Stiefer II of Mena; brother, Alvie B. Stiefer; sisters Martha A. Wells, Mary A. Dooley; sister-in-law Marilyn Stiefer; niece, Sandi Stiefer; several other nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Mena, Arkansas as well as Texas. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

In honor of Bill, memorial gifts can be made to Carus Cares, both online at www.caruscares.org and by mail at 205 Cotton Valley Ln, Mena, AR 71953. All gifts further the goal of ending poverty in Mena, AR and beyond.
