Billy Nathaniel Strohm, 86, retired owner of Gator Athletics/Gator Mills, passed away peacefully at home on December 11th, 2024.
Billy married Lillie Williams in 1957 and they were married for 66 years until her death in November of 2023. The time he spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild was immeasurable. Billy was a graduate of Delta State University and continued to be an avid supporter throughout his years, serving on the Foundation Board of Directors from 2000 to 2003.
He was a zealous outdoorsman and rancher with cutting horses and cattle. Some cutting accomplishments include the 1989 National Cutting Horse Association National Championship, $2,000 Non Pro Champion, 2002 NCHA Open Top Ten World Standings, and 2005 NCHA $10,000 Novice Horse/Non Pro Top Ten World Standings. He also enjoyed spending time flying.
Billy is survived by his son Bill (Sheila) Strohm of Dundee, MS and daughter Tracy (Chris) Ivy of Clarksdale, MS. His grandchildren include Samantha (Cory) Corso, Mary Evan (Alec) Byrd, Nathaniel Strohm, Maggie Ivy, and one great-grandchild, Anderson Corso.
Billy was preceded in death by his wife Lillie Williams Strohm; parents George W. and Virginia Pollard Strohm; brothers George "Curry" Strohm, Fred Strohm, Robert Strohm, Eddie Strohm and sisters Hazel White, Lucille Mooney, Jimmy Jones and Joe Evelyn Strohm.
Visitation will be Friday, December 13, 2024, 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS. Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday at Oakridge Cemetery in Clarksdale, MS with burial in Oakridge Cemetery. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS is handling the arrangements.
