Gary Lee Strohm, age 80, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on November 25, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. Gary was born to Melvin "Slim" and Rensina "Rena" (Geertsema) Strohm on July 4, 1944, in Worthington, Minnesota. Gary was raised in Stone County Missouri and attended Reeds Spring High School and Gibson Vocational Center in Reeds Spring, Missouri. Gary was wedded to Vicki Watts on June 3, 1962, in Galena, Missouri. Gary and Vicki were married sixty-two years.
Gary was employed as a welder by Paul Mueller Company for twelve years before following his passion to create stained glass art and starting his own business, Strohm's Stained Glass. As a talented stained-glass craftsman, Gary created hundreds of window panels and lamps and exhibited his creations and shared his craft for twenty-two seasons at Silver Dollar City's Fall Festival. Gary created the "Flight Into Fantasy" line of three-dimensional stained-glass kits, which were marketed nationwide to stained glass craftsmen for more than forty years. Gary was skilled at horseshoes, and he created and marketed his own design of shoe throwing. Gary was also a collector of many things, which included antique furniture and fruit jars, but his specialty collector hobby was power and telephone insulators. Above all, Gary cherished his time contra dancing and square dancing with his beloved Vicki.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Slim and Rena and three brothers, Daryl, Darwin, and David. Gary is survived by his wife, Vicki Strohm of Springfield; son, Kevin Strohm and wife, Debbie of Springfield; daughter, Cindy Leven and husband, Scott of Springfield; and grandson, Zachary Strohm of Springfield.
A Celebration of Life for Gary will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 4:00 pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield, Missouri.
