B.J. Perry

Beckham Jack "B.J." Perry, age 81, of Oneida, TN, departed this life on Monday, October 6, 2025, surrounded by family, at his home in Oneida, TN. B.J. was born on August 18, 1944 in Pomeroyton, Kentucky. He was saved at an early age and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, as well as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
B.J., with his father and brothers, had a successful coal business for several years making many friends through their business endeavors. After his time as a private business owner, he continued his career in the coal industry working for several large coal companies. Upon retirement from the coal industry, he enjoyed serving his community with his job as a groundskeeper, taking care of the soccer and baseball fields at Bear Creek Sports Complex.
Due to health issues, B.J. retired after 65 years to enjoy time at home. You could find him working outside in the yard and garden, and watching the grandchildren play outside and swim. B.J. was loved so much by his family and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Bonnie Perry; his sisters, Lenora Perry Gevedon; Ruth Perry Rudd; and brothers Steve Perry and Joe Perry.
B.J. is survived by his family that loved him so much; wife of 62 years, Sue Perry; children Kim (Mike) Slaven; Jennifer Faires; Melissa (Gary) Cruz; Jack Perry; and Amy Watters. Grandchildren Sarah (Kenny) Poore; Joshua (Janelle) Slaven; Ross (Mackenzie) Faires; Kurt J. (McKenzie) Faires; Quintin Cruz; Rebekah Cruz; Jackson Perry; Jasmine Perry; Emily Watters; Adrian Watters; Noah Watters. Great Grandchildren: Klein, Kensie, & Kaiden Poore; Lazarus King; Nolan Slaven; Sister; Marlene (Jack) Howard; also, Traci Burchfield; Crandon King and Kurt Faires; special friend Todd Lay and Jerry Stephens, and many other relatives and friends.
A special thank you to the ones who lovingly cared for him at Big South Fork Medical Center, Grace Primary Care, and Brenda Smith.
Friends may visit with the Perry Family on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Brother Dallas West will be officiating the service. Committal service will follow in the Cooper Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Perry, Joshua Slaven, Ross Faires, Kurt J. Faires, Adrian Watters, Quintin Cruz, Jackson Perry, and Kenny Poore. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jack Lay, Todd Lay, Christian Phillips, Phill Boggs, Reese Patterson, Jerry Stevens and Mike Crabtree, Dr. Scott Rector, Chris Claiborne and Bill Duncan.
