Blanche Edna Foxhoven, the daughter of Benton C. and Alice J. (Backstrom) Birchard, was born on July 9, 1936, in Gillette Grove, IA. She passed away on July 19, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville at the age of 88 years.
Blanche was raised in the Gillette Grove area where she attended Gillette Grove Highschool. After graduation she married LaVern Foxhoven in Spencer, Iowa and to this union, four children were born, Debra, John, Laurie and Thomas.
Blanche got the privilege to stay at home with her children when they were growing up. She later worked at Berkley's in Spirit Lake. She enjoyed gambling, sewing, and bird watching, along with listening to music and going to dances. Blanche found happiness in reading the tabloids and completing crossword puzzles. She always had time to spend with her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Blanche became a resident of Good Samaritan Society in Estherville in 2014. She enjoyed "harassing" the staff with her feisty and spicy attitude and became well loved by many of them.
Blanche is survived by her children, Debra (Randy) Pomeroy, John (Stephanie) Foxhoven, Laurie (Bill) Gineris, and Thomas E. (Denise) Foxhoven; 5 grandchildren Jennifer Hellickson, Alex Foxhoven, Brian Foxhoven, Jesse Foxhoven, and Matthew Pomeroy; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Earl Birchard; sister, Shirley (Bob) Stone; as well as many other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LaVern, parents, Benton and Alice (Backstrom) Birchard, brothers, Elmer Birchard, Harold Birchard, Cecil Birchard and Roger Birchard, sisters, Betty Plautz, Marlene Anderson, Wanda Mills and Alice Birchard, and her grandson, Michael Pomeroy.
