Bobbie Story Birdsong was the youngest of six sisters known as "The Story Girls". She was born in 1965, in Montgomery, Alabama. Her parents, Albert and Beth Story, settled with the family near Mobile, where Bobbie swam in Fowl River and on local swim teams. She had four sons, Abe, Nick, Joey and Justin, with her first husband, David Varner. After living in Alabama, then Utah and Oregon, she and her sons returned to the Mobile area.
She had a wonderful, raucous sense of humor, a sharp wit and fearless determination. She needed these qualities as a mother, and to successfully manage trucking dispatchers for many years. Not only did she raise her sons with love and humor, but she also cared for her older sister, Becky.
Happily, Bobbie met the love of her life, David Birdsong, aka "Big David", and married him at the end of 2010. David became instant family. Bobbie returned to college at the University of South Alabama to study the classics, and earned her B.A. in Latin and Greek. She loved to read and to write fantasies. She was a great cook and home decorator - always looking for the next project (usually involving David's help, which he always willingly gave). She was a true believer in Santa and the magic of Christmas. Her favorite holiday was Halloween, though, when she went all out on costumes, decorating and treat-dispensing. Bobbie's favorite occupation was grandmother, and she looked forward to the arrival of the school bus. She loved music and band T-Shirts, she really loved sharing great oldies, like Steve Winwood, with her grandkids.
Bobbie passed away on December 18, 2024, in Seabrook, Texas. She is lovingly remembered by her husband David, her sons and grandchildren, her sisters, Betsy, Bonnie and Barbara, and many nieces and nephews. Her legacy of love, laughter and music will be carried on in her grandchildren David, Kenzie, Layla, Ember, Jocie, and Ava.
No service is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to an animal rescue organization of your choice in Bobbie's honor.
