Robert Walter Bounds, known as Bobby to his family and many friends, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025. He was born in Calhoun City, Mississippi, on February 20, 1948, to the late Robert Wilson Bounds and Grace Gwendolyn Bounds. Bobby called West Point home for most of his life. In 1966 he graduated from West Point High School and attended East Mississippi Community College and Mississippi State University. He was in the insurance business and in later years was associated with Adventure ATV. He was a member of Cornerstone Methodist Church. On October 11, 1969, Bobby married Elizabeth Mae Randle. They raised two sons, Drew and Walt. Randee, their only daughter, lost her life to heart disease at the age of two. Elizabeth and Bobby centered their lives around the activities of their boys. During their football and baseball careers at WPHS and Oak Hill Academy, he loved attending practices and games. He continued to follow Drew’s baseball career at the University of Alabama and Walt’s at the University of Mississippi. As a volunteer coach in the city league, he taught and shared baseball skills with many young men over the years. An avid outdoorsman and hunter, Bobby could be found in the woods during deer, turkey, dove and duck seasons. His greatest joy was hunting with his sons and grandchildren, and he passed on his knowledge of the outdoors to them. Traveling and camping with family and friends filled many of his weekends and summer vacations. From Europe to many of the National Parks, Bobby enjoyed hiking, sitting by a campfire and just soaking up the beauty of nature. Glacier National Park and the Danube River were two of his favorites. His love for the outdoors could also be seen in his immaculate lawn and famous vegetable garden. Friends and family always enjoyed his tomatoes and okra.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Randle Elizabeth Bounds. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, sons Andrew Robert Bounds (Tatum) of Slidell, Louisiana, and Walter Branyan Bounds (Tessa) of Lexington, Kentucky; grandchildren, Branyan, Baylor, Brylee, and Brinkleigh Bounds; Aspyn, Burkley, Hayden, Annabelle, Layla, Freya Bounds, and Harry Cartwright. He also leaves a sister, Grace Bounds Wynne, brother-in-law, Robert Wynne and sister-in-law, Lewise Randle Jackson and his lifelong friends and classmates of the WPHS Class of 1966.
The family wishes to thank Tina Armstrong, RN, and Spring Valley Hospice for their loyal dedication and constant care given to Bobby during his days on hospice.
