Mr. Bobby Flynn

Mr. Bobby Flynn, 95, husband of Ella Ritchey Crowe Flynn, passed away Thursday, September 22 in Lexington, KY. Born July 25, 1927 in Lexington, KY, he was the son of the late Clarence and Delina Brandenberg Flynn. Bobby was a graduate of Lafayette High School and received a bachelor's degree at University of Dayton on a basketball scholarship. He served his country proudly in the United States Army and the Merchant Marines. Bobby was a man of strong faith, loved the Lord and was a member of Grace Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He worked for Jefferson Pilot in insurance sales for 30 years. He served as a KY State Senator from 1968 to 1972 and was on the Lexington City Council for 12 years. He was drafted into the MLB and played for the Brooklyn Dodgers and was the first white player to play on the semi-pro African American League. He was an avid fisherman and golfer and was the Senior Golf Champion in Lexington 15 years in a row. He also sang with Golden Vees Quartet. Along with his wife of 76 years he is also survived by 2 sons, Robert D. (Olga) Flynn Jr. of Lexington, KY and Bradley Clark (Leslie) Flynn of Nicholasville, KY; a granddaughter, Chase Marie Flynn; a brother, Norris Flynn and a sister, Joyce Bouch. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melanie Dee Flynn; 2 brothers, Melvin Flynn and Jimmy Flynn and 2 sisters, Betty Bishop and Nona Richie. Funeral services will be 2:30pm Tuesday, September 27 at Kerr Brothers-Harrodsburg Rd. with Pastor Steven R. Price officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers for Mr. Flynn will be Mark Jeter, John Hoagland, Richard Maloney, Steve Harris, Mike Belcher and Rick Chasteen. Honorary pallbearer is Jim Andrews. Visitation will be 4-8pm Monday and 12:30pm till the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
