Funeral service for Dr. Bobby James Newbell will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation Monday 4-7 PM and Tuesday after 11 AM at Ligon & Bobo.
Dr. Newbell, age 51 of Huntsville, AL passed away August 12, 2022.
Bob was born on January 18, 1971, in Warren, MI. He was the only child of James Thomas Newbell and Vera Jean Stacy Newbell. He married April Joy Crook, of Lebanon, TN, on July 1, 1995. While they had no children they spoiled each of their pets as if they were children. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas Newbell and Vera Jean Newbell and his sister-in-law, Leah L. Grandstaff and Hannah Ruth Grandstaff.
Bob graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from Cumberland University on December 17, 1993. He then began his medical training at the University of Tennessee, Memphis, in July 1994. After graduating from UT Medical School in 1998, Bob went on to complete his residency in Family Practice at UAB Huntsville. After a brief time in Cartersville, GA, Bob and his wife returned to Huntsville to start their own family practice office in Hazel Green. There they spent the next twenty years working side by side at Hazel Green Family Practice. In April 2022, Bob and April sold their family practice in Hazel Green and retired. After retirement, Bob focused on his new found hobby, electronics as well as strengthening his mind with learning Latin.
Bob is survived by his wife of 27 years, April Crook Newbell. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Betty. He is also survived by his in-laws, Joyce and JT Crook, P. Jay Crook, Anita Crook, Julie (Crook) and Wendell Barrett, and Franklin and Frances Grandstaff; niece and nephews, Kellie and Jonathan Grandstaff and S. Andrew Grandstaff ,and great niece Lucy Jade Grandstaff. He is also survived by his Aunt Joann Newbell and several cousins.
Bob will be greatly remembered for his sense of humor, his compassion, and his love for his wife. He was a good man, a good husband and provider, and a good friend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to pet rescue facilities as Bob had such a love for pets.

So sorry to hear of Dr. Newbell´s passing. He was my doctor for many years up until his retirement recently. He was always very patient and kind to me. Prayers for peace and comfort for his wife and their family.

Been with Dr. Newbell for some years now. I just got the message of his passing. He went to young. We always talked a bit about Germany and my volunteer work with a local Animal Shelter. My condolences and deepest sympathy to his family.

So very sorry to hear this news. Working at Huntsville Hospital we would talk to him several times a day before he retired when he called to schedule imaging for his patients.

I am so sorry for the families loss He was a good man ,doctor ,& friend! I used to go to him years ago and he was one of the nicest people I ever had the privilege of knowing! One appointment I had to bring my pet rats with me straight from their vet and he talked to them which started off with him saying Hey Mickey Mouse to the one standing up for attention! I Will remember his kindness forever as I´m certain most other will as well!
