Bobby Gene Sumner, age 83 years, of the Sandhill Community died Monday, March 25, 2024 at his home.
He was born in Whitley City, Kentucky on November 21, 1940 the son of the late Edwin and Nora (Perry) Sumner. Bobby had worked 46 years as a logger and had accepted the Lord as his Savior. Camping, hunting, fishing, working on his cars and trucks, but especially being with his grandchildren were his favorite things in life.
His parents; two brothers, Donald Sumner and Richard Sumner; sister Geraldine Hicks, and husband Arville; a nephew, Shawn Sumner; and a niece, Patricia Hicks precede him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Ruth (Canada) Sumner of Whitley City, Kentucky; son, Michael Gene Sumner and wife, Donna of Whitley City, Kentucky; daughters, Debbie K. Bell and Joyce A. Roberts both of Whitley City, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Linda Sumner of Whitley City, Kentucky; grandchildren, Jason Bell (Sonya), Sami Jo King (Josh), Amanda Sumner, Michael Wayne Sumner (Stephanie King), and Ashley Armstrong (Simon); 11 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held 2pm Thursday, March 28, 2024 at the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Ray Sumner officiating. Burial will follow in the Taylor Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 6pm Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at the Funeral Home.
