Born Bobbye Jean Bartlett in Lakeview, TX to Buster and Katherine (Doll) Bartlett on January 28,1934, she moved with her parents and siblings, Jerry Wayne and Doyle Buster to the community of Lorenzo, TX early in their lives to eventually become pillars of church and community in Crosby County.
After graduation from Lorenzo High School, Bobbye went on to graduate from Wayland Baptist College with a bachelor’s degree in English. After college, she moved back to Lorenzo just in time to become reacquainted with her classmate, Lynn Merrell Hargrove, who had recently returned from his Korean War experience in the US Navy. They married at Lorenzo Baptist Church in 1955, and he found work leveraging his Navy training; first as a Policeman for the City of Lubbock and then as an Electrician, Linesman and Commercial Rep with the local utility, Southwestern Public Service. They soon had three young boys to raise, Dennis Keith, Steven Kyle and Kevin Scott, which Bobbye did with gentle words and a stern hand.
When the children were old enough for school, Bobby pursued her professional career which culminated as Senior Assistant VP in the Trust department of American State Bank. After her retirement from ASB, Bobbye enjoyed taking care of her home, her children and grandchildren with Sunday dinners of Roast Beef and Cherry Pie, something she was famous for throughout her life. Her Cherry Pies were the most coveted desserts at any family gathering.
Bobbye was known by all her friends and family as one of the kindest and sweetest women to have ever walked the earth. She was a member of several Baptist churches throughout her life and lived by His grace daily.
Bobbye Jean was proceeded in death by her parents and both of her husbands, Lynn Merrell Hargrove and Kenneth Dale Young, her brother Jerry Wayne Bartlett and her eldest son, Dennis Keith Hargrove.
She is survived by her remaining children, Steven Kyle Hargrove and his wife Patty and brother Kevin Scott Hargrove along with grandchildren from all three sons: Kalie Michelle Campbell, John Kelby Hargrove, Sydney Marie Hargrove and husband Kevin , Alexander Perry Hargrove, Devin Scott Hargrove and wife Tiffany along with 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews from siblings Jerry Wayne with his wife Novice and Doyle Buster Bartlett and his wife Brenda. Known as Aunt Bobbye to a score or more Bartlett and Hargrove nieces and nephews, she showed kindness and love to everyone.
There will be a graveside marker dedication along with spreading of ashes on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Lorenzo Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
