Boyer Lisa Robinson Obituary

Lisa Jean Robinson-Boyer, 67, was called into God's everlasting kingdom on September 15, 2025, after a courageous three-year battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was born on April 2, 1958, to Danny and Nancy (née Edgar) Rosenbaum in Columbus, Ohio. A proud 1976 graduate of Whetstone High School, Lisa earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Otterbein University in 1980 and a Master of Education from the University of Rio Grande in 2007. She began her music teaching career with Liberty Union-Thurston Schools in 1980. After stepping away for several years to raise her sons, she returned to the classroom, teaching music at Holy Spirit, St. Mary Magdalene, and Christ the King Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Columbus, before retiring in 2018.

Lisa had many passions in life. She loved teaching and working with children and adults. Besides her school jobs, she spent a few years as the Youth Director at David Lutheran Church in Canal Winchester. At various times, she directed the Worthington Songsters, Hilliard Community Chorus, and Pickerington Community Chorus. For 45 years, Lisa worked as a church musician, directing children's, youth, and adult vocal and handbell choirs at David Lutheran Church, Peace Lutheran Church in Gahanna, Eastview United Methodist Church in Whitehall, North Community Lutheran Church in Columbus, and, where she was still employed, Centenary United Methodist Church in Granville. A woman of strong faith, she was a life-long Lutheran and a member at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Pickerington. For several seasons, Lisa was a member of the Columbus Symphony Chorus and volunteered as a docent for symphony concerts. Since 2015, she sang in the Columbus Chorus, the city's oldest Sweet Adeline chorus. Countless students were inspired by her love of music-a love she instilled in her family, who would sing choral anthems in church from time to time.

Music was her calling, and serving others was her vocation. Over the years, Lisa could be seen in the Mount Carmel Health System cheering up patients or helping with clerical tasks, donating blood, coordinating the Alumni Choir at Otterbein University, serving as a Board Member of the Otterbein Music Alumni Network (OMANet), delivering Meals on Wheels, taking communion to shut-ins, participating in Bible study, serving as a Stephen Minister, and being an assisting minister in worship.

Lisa always made time to see friends and family. She traveled to 49 states, the Caribbean, and several European countries; she had a particular love for Ireland. Lunches, dinners, or other excursions with "The Whetstone Girls," friends she had since elementary school, college sorority sisters or classmates, former teaching colleagues, church parishioners, "The Widowed Bunch," or her fellow Sweet Adeline singers were a frequent part of her schedule. She knew so many people that the running family joke was she could not go anywhere without seeing someone she knew–even in Williamsburg, Virginia!

Perhaps no passion was greater for Lisa than being a mother and grandmother. She adored her grandson and cherished "Grammy" time by playing games, reading books, and going on adventures. Over the years, she attended sporting events, concerts, theatre productions, and more for her sons, nieces, and grandnephews. She never missed a chance to share her pride in her family.

Lisa was preceded in death by her husband, Tim Boyer, and her parents. Surviving her are sons, Matthew, Andrew (Brooke), and Nathaniel Robinson; grandson, Patrick; sister, Karen McDonnell Brown (Mark); and nieces, Meghan McDonnell (children Sumner, Jackson, and Truman Anderson), Caitlin McDonnell (Mike Waclo), and Colleen McDonnell. Her family is indebted to everyone who provided amazing care and comfort for her, especially the nurses and chaplains at Capital City Hospice.

A celebration of life will be held at Epiphany Lutheran Church (268 Hill Rd N., Pickerington, OH 43147) on Saturday, October 18, 2025, with Pastor Brad Gee officiating. The family will receive guests at the church from 10:00-11:30 AM. The service will begin at 11:30 AM, with lunch to follow. Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home in Pickerington is assisting with arrangements. Inurnment will be held privately with the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lisa's honor to an organization she supported or that aided her, such as METAvivor, Capital City Hospice, Epiphany Lutheran Church, Centenary United Methodist Church, Columbus Chorus, Pickerington Community Chorus, or HopeWood Outdoors (Lutheran Memorial Camp). Please also consider signing up to donate blood through the American Red Cross, which she faithfully did for over 15 years.
