Brenda Lee Ashbrook, of Vernon, Texas, passed away on October 22, 2024, in Slidell, Louisiana, at the age of 63.
Brenda was born on August 15, 1961, to the late Carl and Patricia Gearld. Brenda's early years were spent in the small and loving town of Vernon, where she attended Vernon High School. Her formative experiences in her hometown shaped a life that would be dedicated to the service of others. Brenda's compassionate spirit led her to a fulfilling career as a nurse aide at Wilbarger General Hospital and a caregiver for Texoma Home Health, where she touched the lives of countless individuals with her kindness, dedication, and a listening ear.
Though Brenda faced personal losses such as her time cut short with her cherished daughter, Amanda Gail; the passing of her beloved husband of 16 years, Larry Ashbrook, her dear sister, Nita Woodard, and her brother, Mike Shelton, she remained strong in her faith and was always a shoulder to lean on when someone needed just to talk.
Brenda found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her road trips with Larry and her son led her to the majestic Rocky Mountains, a place where she felt at peace and invigorated by the beauty of nature. Her nurturing heart was not only evident in her professional life but also in the way she cared for her family and friends. Her son, Aaron, was her absolute pride and joy. Although Brenda didn't care much for large crowds, she was always a phone call away.
Brenda is survived by her devoted son, Aaron Woodard, along with his wife, Jennifer, who will cherish the last seven months that they were able to spend with her, sharing their life and watching a connection grow with her grandson. Her grandchildren, Isabel Woodard, Lydia Woodard, Vayda Bennett, and Brady Woodard, will miss their grandmother's warm hugs and morning kisses. Brenda's brother, Paul Gearld (Becky), will hold dear the memories of their shared laughter and the bond of sibling love that never wavered. Paul and Becky had devoted so much of their time to assuring Brenda had everything she needed.
Those who knew Brenda will remember her as a loving and passionate soul, a woman who lived her life with an open heart and a spit fire personality. Her absence will be deeply felt by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have known and loved her.
Her son and daughter-in-law would like to thank the Ochsner ER, the nurses at Heritage Manor, and the entire ICU Department at Slidell Memorial Hospital for their unwavering care, kindness and empathy.
A memorial service will be held in Vernon, Texas at a later date. Memories and condolences may be expressed at www.AudubonFuneralHome.com
