Brian Bissey Obituary

Brian Paul Bissey, 70, of Coopersburg, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 3, 2023. Known for his devotion to family, sense of humor, and love for sports and the outdoors, Brian lived a life full of laughter, friendship, and love. He was happiest relaxing at the Jersey Shore wearing a Phillies baseball hat with a beer or ice cream in hand. He loved his wife of 46 years, Andi, and his two children – Bryn and Sean – more than anything.

Brian was born on March 31, 1953, in Allentown, PA to parents Elizabeth Mills Bissey and Paul Dean Bissey Jr. As a child growing up in Coopersburg, he enjoyed playing sports, hanging out with his brother Bret, and fishing/boating with his grandfather and dad on the Delaware River. He was a well-known 3-sport varsity athlete at Southern Lehigh High School including starting as point guard for multiple years on the basketball team. He graduated with a degree in English from Dickinson College – where he was also a devoted member of Sigma Chi fraternity and played football – and, later, with a Juris Doctor from Temple University. He had a successful career as a lawyer for over 35 years, first at Blue Cross and Mack Trucks, and then at Victaulic Company, where he served as Vice President, General Counsel.

Brian met his wife, Andi, during their freshman year at Dickinson college during a spontaneous, but serendipitous snowball fight on Morgan Field. After getting married in 1977, they lived in Allentown and Catasauqua, before settling for the last 20 years in Coopersburg, PA. They welcomed their daughter, Bryn, in 1991 and their son, Sean, in 1993. First as a couple, and then with their family, Brian and Andi shared many adventures in places as far-flung as the Greek Isles and Costa Rica – but some of their happiest times were spent at their beach house in Stone Harbor, NJ or around the backyard pool. He especially loved dogs and his current rescue dog, James, will miss him dearly. He coached both of his children in soccer and basketball and was a lifelong fan of Philly sports teams (not always an easy job, but luckily, he was able to savor both a World Series and Superbowl win in the last few years).

Brian was predeceased by his parents Elizabeth Bissey and Paul Bissey Jr. and grandparents Paul Dean Bissey Sr./Lillian Miller Bissey and James Mills/Margaret Allan Mills. He is survived by his wife Andi Bissey, children Bryn Snyder (Baird Snyder) and Sean Bissey, brother Bret Bissey (Cindy Bissey), sister-in-law Jodi Betz (Michael Betz), niece Brittany Bissey, nephews Oliver Bissey (Brianna Bissey), Grant Bissey, and grand-niece Ella Bissey, as well as other cousins, family members, and many caring friends.

Services: A viewing will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 225 Elm Street, Emmaus, PA. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 in the funeral home.

We understand how much it means to have others realize how much your loved one mattered. We understand and we know the emptiness of loss. Brian mattered and we are with your memories as you reflect on his importance in your family´s life. David and Linda Eisenhauer

We have been thinking of your family and want you to know we have good memories of Brian and each of you. David especially with going to school with Brian, and coaching sports with the sons, and the daughters sharing activities, and I enjoyed our trips with the women neighborhood group to NY, etc., and all of us in the neighborhood picnics, egg hunts and get togethers. So much has changed, and seems to to change quickly, but please know we will always have such nice remembrances of our times together and thank you for being a part of our memories. Rest in peace, my friend. Growing up in Coopersburg a few blocks from Brian who could always make me laugh. I have fond memories of him and his family with sleep overs and pool time in their backyard. Good times. Paul drafted me onto the Braves in little league and you always remember your first baseball coach. We played together for 4 yrs and made the all -star team in 64 that went deep in playoffs. Along with midget football and then on to basketball in high school, we played a lot of sports together. Unfortunately, after school we drifted apart but I’m so thankful for all those years. My deepest condolences to the family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Our sincere condolences to the Bissey family....Brian was a respected colleague and trusted friend for many years at Victaulic. We were ever amused to learn that we played high school football on opposing teams long before our knowing one another personally. May you rest in peace.

I am so sad to hear of Brian's passing. We worked together for many years and he was a wonderful boss. I always appreciated his passion for the law, his dedication to his family, his great sense of humor and was a mentor to me in my career. My sincere sympathies to Brian's family on his passing.
