Bryan Ross Smitherman was born September 6, 2001, and departed this life on January 5, 2023.
The son of Dr. Bryan Smitherman and the late Lisa Smitherman was born in Lubbock and attended Roscoe Wilson Elementary, J.T. Hutchinson Middle School, and graduated from Lubbock High School in May of 2020. While at Lubbock High, Ross was on the football team, played the bass in the Varsity Orchestra for all 4 years, was on the State Championship Academic Octathlon team and the Academic Decathlon team.
Ross was currently a student at Texas Tech University. He was initiated into Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity, where he served as the Risk Management Officer.
As an active member of First United Methodist Church, Ross began his church service as an acolyte before becoming an usher. While in the youth department, he was on the Youth Council and sang in the Youth Choir. As a dedicated member of the Chancel Choir, Ross sang bass.
Ross always had a love of hunting, snowboarding, and music of all kinds. In February of 2019, Ross had the opportunity to sing on the Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall in New York.
One of Ross's lifelong favorite activities was the annual Father/Son Campout at the family's ranch in Mclean, Texas. Since 2002, this event brought family and friends, both old and new, together for a memorable weekend of camping, fishing, and fellowship.
Ross was well-traveled, visiting such places as Israel, India, Europe, England, Mexico, South America and the contiguous United States.
Always willing to answer the call to help - whether at church, school, home, or the community, Ross faithfully showed his servant's heart.
Ross was preceded in death by his mother, both his maternal and paternal grandparents, and his aunt, Annette Patterson. He is survived by his father, Tony Bryan Smitherman, sister Elizabeth Carol-Anne Smitherman, paternal aunt Beth Campbell (Jim) of Allen, Texas, maternal aunts Dena Houchin (Don) of Houston, and Nancy Moore (Jim) of College Station, multiple cousins, girlfriend Elizabeth Davis, as well as a multitude of friends.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Music Department of First United Methodist Church, the Columbarium Fund at FUMC, or American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (afsp.org).
