Buck Junior Nichols, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 1, 2024, at the age of 77, in Fort Worth, Texas. Born on September 11, 1946, in Seminole, Texas, to the late Cecil and Jessie Nichols, Buck grew up with a deep appreciation for his Chikwawa Cherokee heritage and the open Texas landscapes that shaped his character and life's work. Buck's journey through life was one marked by resilience, joy, and an unwavering commitment to his family, his unexpected departure followed a car accident in Abilene, Texas, on July 31, 2024.
After bidding farewell to his parents and his beloved sister Becky Nichols, Buck's legacy continued to thrive through his loving family. He is survived by his devoted children, Shanna and Ricky Cornejo, Tonya and Randy Quisenberry, Kevin Nichols, Nikki Dunkerson with her partner Carlos Maldonado, and Toni Burd. Buck's joy was multiplied by his grandchildren, Tiffiony, Jaime, Cassandra, Keyana, Katie, Jaynae, Braiden, Ryleigh, Corde, and Naomi, as well as his great-grandchildren, Braden, Paige, Luke, Liddia, Harvey, Ayden, Crue, and Luca, who will all hold dear the memories and lessons he imparted.
Buck's professional life was as rich and varied as the Texas landscape he loved. His career in Seminole County saw him behind the wheel of a truck, navigating the vast expanses of Texas. In the oil fields, Buck's tenacity and skill led him from being a driller to an all-around hand, and eventually to a pumper. His entrepreneurial spirit shone bright when he became the owner of Nick Oil, and he shared his love for the outdoors with the community through his Red Top Bait Shop in Breckenridge, Texas.
A man of many interests, Buck's love for his family was paramount. He was a proud descendant of the Chikwawa Cherokee and carried that pride throughout his life. His passion for hunting and fishing was only matched by his expertise. Buck will be remembered not only for his work ethic but also for his vibrant personality. He was the life of any gathering, often found sharing stories or challenging friends to a game of pool, where he was known as an incredible pool shark.
Those who knew Buck could attest to his outgoing nature. He could often be found dancing, moving with a rhythm and confidence that was contagious. Buck's laughter and wide smile were as much a part of him as his steadfast presence in the lives of those he loved.
As we reflect on Buck's life, we are reminded of the indelible mark he left on this world. His stories, filled with adventure and humor, will continue to inspire and entertain us. Through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, his spirit endures, guiding them with the wisdom and love he shared so generously.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Buck's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home.
