Jason Jacob Nichols, born on April 20, 1948, in Orlando, Florida, passed peacefully on August 10, 2025 in Ocala, Florida at the age of 77. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Susan Nichols, and is survived by many cousins from both the Herring and Nichols families. He held a special bond with Steve Ward, whom he cherished like a son, along with his wife, Adrienne Ward.
Jason's early years were marked by service as he dedicated 12 years to the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1980, exemplifying the values of honor and integrity. Following his military service, he began a notable career as a truck driver for Roadway, where he worked for 23 years and drove more than six million miles. His driving endeavors extended into the realm of ministry, where he found fulfillment in serving others, most notably with Operation Blessings. It was during this time that Jason took great pride in being able to help those in need.
In addition to his impressive career, Jason was well-respected as a firearms instructor and played a significant role in establishing the security program at Fellowship Baptist Church, demonstrating his commitment to community safety. He also attended Woodside Baptist Church in Ocala, Florida.
Beyond his professional life, Jason had a variety of hobbies that brought him joy, including an admiration for racing and a passion for music. Following his retirement from Operation Blessings and the closure of their Ocala Terminal, Jason embraced a fulfilling personal life, indulging in his love for cruising and cultivating a beautiful garden filled with fresh vegetables.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Ottway Nichols; mother, Margaret Herring Nichols; and a baby brother, as well as several uncles and cousins from the Herring and Nichols families.
