Morris "Buddy" Sikes Jr., age 76 of Santa Fe, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 19, 2025. He was born July 23, 1948, in Galveston, Texas, and was a longtime resident of Santa Fe. He graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1966 and later earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State University.
After graduation, Buddy began his career at American General Insurance later moving to American Indemnity in Galveston. He retired after 35 years from United Fire, where he was a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) specializing in loss control.
A loyal member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Santa Fe, Buddy enjoyed working and cutting up in the church kitchen. He also loved spending time in his shop, restoring pedal cars, painting gas pumps, and visiting with friends.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Morris Sr. and Lucille Sikes; in-laws, Leon and LaVell Rush; and niece, Ashley Blume. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Christine Rush Sikes; daughter, Tracy Olvera and son-in-law, David; granddaughters, Annie and Olivia Olvera; sisters, Jan Konikowski and her husband John, Louisa "Snooky" Moore and her husband James; brother-in-law, Fred Rush and his wife Tito; sister-in-law, Margaret Nobles and her husband David; nieces, Nikki Cheezan (Jeff), Sarah Fox (Matt), and Dana Prewitt (Josh); nephews, Trey Blume, Daniel Nobles (Molly), and Trey Whitley (Angela); along with numerous extended family and friends.
Buddy was blessed with many friends who became like family. Chris and Tracy would like to extend special thanks to Tim Grant, Mike Taylor, and John Cowart for their unwavering friendship, love, and support through both the good times and the difficult ones.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Scott Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas.
