C.J. Smothermon

C.J. Smothermon, 43, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025, in Amarillo, Texas. Memorial services will be held at Frio Baptist Church, on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM, with Pastor Marion Turner officiating. Arrangements and cremation services have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt, Texas.

C.J. was born on March 24, 1982, in Dimmitt, Texas, to Terry and Cindy (Mixson) Smothermon. C.J. grew up in Killeen, Texas, and attended Killeen High School, where he was part of the Color Guard. He later graduated from Killeen High School in 2000. He later attended TSTI (Texas State Technical Institute) in Sweetwater, Texas. He also attended San Angelo State University for a short time. C.J. was employed at Wal-Mart in Hereford, Texas, for several years as their photo technician. C.J. enjoyed spending time with his nieces, playing video games, bringing out his collection of Legos, Transformers, and Nerf guns; he also was fond of crocheting. C.J. was a good son, brother, and uncle who will be missed dearly.

Those left to cherish his memories are his parents, Terry and Cindy Smothermon of Dimmitt, Texas; his two sisters, Andrea Smothermon of Hereford, Texas, and Baylei Zuniga and her husband Thomas of Easter, Texas; three nieces, Kairi, Vivien, and Daisy; his great-grandmother, Jackie Smothermon of Hereford, Texas; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and a lifelong friend, Stephen Garvin of Abilene, Texas.

C.J. is preceded in death by his grandparents, J.R. and Rickie Mixson, and Delbert Smothermon; two uncles, David Mixson and Jason Smothermon; and his great-grandparents, James and Mary Mixson, R.W. and Daisy Sims, and Joe and Alvena Comer.
