Obituary published on Legacy.com by South Green Memorial Home (Waszkelewicz) on Oct. 20, 2023.
Calvin Ware, Sr., 79, of Hartford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2023.
Calvin was born in Gainesville, AL, the son of the late Levi and Henrietta Ware, and attended local schools. He entered the military in New York and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Calvin worked various jobs before starting a career in the manufacturing industry.
Calvin was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will fondly be remembered as a kind and caring man who loved his family more than anything. Calvin taught his children discipline and patience and encouraged them to do the right thing by telling them to "start out how you wanna end out." He loved and spoiled his children and grandchildren and was proud to celebrate all their accomplishments. Calvin had a strong work ethic and always made sure his family was taken care of. He was a generous man who was always there to help someone in need, and would give you the shirt off his back or the last dollar in his pocket if you needed it. Calvin was a proud and headstrong Southern man and enjoyed his way of doing things, but he had a heart of gold, and everything came from a place of love.
Calvin loved working on cars, and he bonded with his sons during the time they spent working on cars together. Because he grew up on a farm, he enjoyed working in his garden and always shared his vegetables with his family and friends. Calvin also loved cooking, especially traditional Southern dishes, and enjoyed being outdoors.
Calvin leaves to cherish his memory, his sons, Calvin K. Ware, II (Indya) and Derik M. Ware; daughter, Barbara Percy; his granddaughters, Dejah Ware, Isyss Hernandez, and Iyonna Ware; his brother, Cleveland Ware (LaVerne); sisters, Cornelia Harris (Joseph), Carolyn Jackson (John), Dorothy Belle (Jerome), and Mary Boyce (Stanley); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Mattie Hatten, Pearlie Ware, Anna Louise Strode, and Inez Dawson; brothers; Levy Ware (Leona), Chester Ware (Louvenia), Sam Ware (Kay), Johnny Ware (Tommie), Benjamin Ware (Clemetta), and Leslie Ware (Charity).
His service will be private and to honor his service to his country, he will be interred in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown.
