Carl C. Bohner, age 87, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, at his home in Florham Park, NJ.
Carl was born February 6, 1937, in Dornsife, Pennsylvania to Clayton and Ellen Bohner. He attended Mahanoy Joint High School and later Valley Forge Military Academy. Carl served in the Air Force National Guard and obtained his B.A. at Gettysburg College and M.A. in Accounting at the University of Illinois. He worked as an accountant with the firm Haskins & Sells, Treasurer of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and Chief Financial Officer of Delonghi America.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Roseanne Fowler; sons and daughters-in-law Chris and Clover and Matt and Rachel, and stepsons Harry and Misty and Brent and Delphine Costner; sister and brother-in-law Donna and Jack Brosius; and grandchildren Cali and Cooper Bohner, and Elizabeth, Aiden, and Chloe Costner. He was predeceased by his first wife Mary Virginia Toner, and long-time companion Mary Costner.
A resident of Chatham, NJ since the 1970s, Carl was active in youth sports, including coaching little league baseball and soccer. He was a devoted Yankees fan and a disappointed supporter of the Giants football team. Carl was fond of showing his $7.50 ticket stub from Game 5 of the 1976 Yankees-Royals ALCS pennant game and steadfastly maintained a boycott of the new Yankee stadium over the exorbitant ticket prices.
Carl hoped to be an Air Force pilot upon graduation from the Valley Forge Military Academy but was ineligible due to his lack of 20/20 vision. However, he earned his private pilot license in 1976, flying his family and friends in a single-engine Grumman with the call letters Yankee45Lima. His father Clayton flew a barnstormer in rural Pennsylvania, surviving two crashes.
Carl was a devoted gardener and attributed his longevity to his refusal to hire outside help with lawn chores, mowing the lawn, and raking leaves until he was 86 years old. He strongly opposed sitting on the couch, embracing a life of travel, dining, attending musical events and other vibrant activities with his wife Roseanne. Carl enjoyed visiting casinos and famously was dealt a royal flush in a game of Let It Ride in Las Vegas.
Carl's laughter and zest for life will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
A Funeral Service will be held at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St. in Chatham on Friday, January 3 at 12:00pm. Burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover will follow. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 10am to 12pm prior to the service.
