Carla J. Boyd

Carla Jo Ann Boyd, 76, of Vinita, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025.

She was born on February 19, 1949, in Vinita, Oklahoma, to Robert Carl and Shirley (Hurst) Gardner. After her parents' divorce, her mother married Ernest (Ernie) Bennett, and the family moved to Edmond, where Carla attended school. She later graduated from Guthrie High School in 1967.

In 1969, Carla married Ron Vice, and together they had three children: Deena, Tammy, and Ron II. Following their divorce, she married David Boyd in 1984. Together, David and Carla owned and operated KITO Radio in Vinita until their retirement in 2005.

Carla was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. A proud member of Eastern Star Chapter 26 and of Cherokee heritage, she cherished her community as deeply as her family. She found joy in many simple pleasures, spending time with her husband, watching The Price Is Right each day, fishing on quiet afternoons, and crocheting gifts with love. Most of all, she treasured time with her children and grandchildren. Carla will always be remembered for her warmth, kindness, selflessness, and unwavering love for others.

She is survived by her husband, David Boyd of the home; daughter, Deena Vice of McKinney, Texas; son, Ron Vice II and wife Halley of Frisco, Texas; stepson, Gavin Boyd and wife Stephanie of Big Cabin, Oklahoma; brother, David Bennett of Tomball, Texas; son-in-law, Don Daniels of Vinita, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Eli and Nolan Vice of Frisco, Texas, and Lane Boyd of Washington, D.C.; step-grandchildren, Tanya Pennington, Caitlin Daniels, and Erik Daniels of Vinita, Oklahoma; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Tammy, and her mother-in-law, Leona Boyd.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. at the Burckhalter-Highsmith Chapel on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

The graveside celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Carselowey Cemetery, Pastor Dan Eischen will officiate. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and honor of Carla's life.

Carla's legacy of love, laughter, and devotion will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Arrangements are in the care of the Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral and Cremation Services of Vinita. "Vinita's only locally family owned and operated funeral home."
