Mr. Carlos Mills, 70, of Scalf, passed away Thursday morning, February 29, 2024 in the comfort of his home. He was the son of the late Leamon and Tressie Bargo Mills born on January 11, 1954 at Scalf.
Carlos was a deacon at Salt Gum Baptist Church and dedicated his life to loving the Lord. He loved singing and playing the piano. He worked at Pope Lumber Company for 50 years and owned Carlos Mills Grocery for 40 years. He was also active at the Senior Citizens Center in Barbourville. Carlos was a farmer who loved his cows and horses and was an avid Case knife trader. He also enjoyed mentoring his grandsons in his hobbies. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
On December 17, 1974 he united in marriage with Irene Mills and to this union two children were born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two twin brothers, Cillous and Willis Mills.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Irene Mills of Scalf; two loving children, Carlos Ray Mills of Scalf and Tammy Renae Marion and husband, Jamie, of Scalf; three treasured grandchildren, Noah Michael Ray Marion, Conor Malaki Darren Marion and Caden Isaac James Marion; a brother, Herschel Mills and wife, Joyce, of Scalf; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Billy Mills, who was like a brother to him; among other loved ones, dear friends and his church family.
His funeral service will be conducted at the Salt Gum Baptist Church Sunday, March 3 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Kennon Roark and Billy Mills officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Finley Bargo Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be his grandsons and nephews. Serving as honorary bearers will be his fellow coworkers at Pope Lumber Company.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday between 2 and 4 P.M., at the church Saturday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Sunday after 10 A.M. until the funeral hour.
