Carmen Francis Greco, 75, died October 17th, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was born February 9th, 1949, in Johnson City, NY, the son of Anthony and Agnes (Mikeska) Greco. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Anthony (Tuggy) Greco, his nephew, Marco Greco, his sister-in-law, Darlene Greco, father-in-law Leon Bill, and mother-in-law Betty Bill. He is survived by his wife Kathleen (Bill) Greco, his daughter Michele Greco (Amy), his sons Joshua and Anthony Greco, brother Joseph Greco, sister Rozann Greco, and in-laws Rosemary and Kevin Fleury, David and Denise Bill, Ronald and Paula Bill, Lee and Joanne Bill, Steven and Diane Bill, Paul and Susan Bill, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Carmen graduated in 1967 from Union-Endicott High School. He married Kathleen Bill in 1976, and they celebrated 48 years of marriage in June. Carmen attended Broome Community College and accepted a position at IBM Endicott in the chem lab where he worked for 34 years. At the age of 51, he went back to school at SUNY Cortland to pursue a bachelor's degree in elementary education.
Carmen was best known as "The Gentle Giant," "Mr. Greco," "The Gift of Gab," "Carmenooch," and "Coach." He loved his family, his friends, and his community. Those who knew him know he loved to tell stories and reminisce wherever he went. He was larger than life and loved to laugh. He loved his children and supported them through every high and low of life, meeting them with a hug, advice, and hot wings or pizza. He referred to his loving wife as "The General" who saw him through all ten years of his disease, caring for him and his every need with love and compassion.
Carmen dedicated his life to serving the youth of his community. His passion was on the football field, the baseball field, and in the classroom. He was most especially remembered as his daughter Michele's substitute teacher for her third grade classes at Union-Endicott's LWW and AGM, and as "Coach" on the field. He received the Service to Mankind Award in 2008 as a result of his many years of coaching Endicott Youth Baseball, CYO Basketball at St. Anthony's, Vestal Youth Football (VYFL), and Endicott Youth Football League (EYFL) which he co-founded.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 4-6 pm at Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main St., Endicott, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 300 Odell Ave, Endicott, on Friday, October 25th at 10 am, followed by entombment in Riverhurst Cemetery Endicott.
