Carmen Deck Trevitt, Sr., 96, of Jones County, Georgia passed away peacefully at home Monday, June 10th, 2024. Carmen was born September 22nd, 1927 in Dalton, Georgia, attended Dalton High School, and graduated from the Capital Page School in Washington D.C., and Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Carmen served as a Capital Page during World War II under Congressman Malcom Tarvar from Georgia's 7th District. During his tenure in Washington, D.C. in joint sessions of Congress (1943-1944) Carmen heard speeches from Winston Churchill, Madame Chiang Kai-shek, and other world leaders. First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt served as "godmother" to the Page boys, presented Carmen his high school diploma, and hosted the Pages in the White House on several occasions where Carmen met and visited with President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the Oval Office. He received his bachelors degree from Mercer University in 1950 with a double major in Education and Science. Carmen also lettered in tennis at Mercer and was in the brotherhood of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. In his professional years, he served on the Board of Directors for the Miss Georgia Dairies Cooperative. Carmen was the first Boy Scout in Dalton, Georgia to earn the honor of Eagle Scout. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served two tours, one of which he served in post-World War II Germany. He had varied and diverse careers as a high school teacher, girls' basketball head coach, dairy farmer, beef cattle farmer, owner and operator of the first chain of women's clothing outlet stores, and was a pioneer in the communications business in both radio and cable television. In later years, he owned and worked on his pine tree farm, Trevitt Farms, in Jones County.
He is preceded in death by his son, Andrew Fullington Trevitt; mother, Angie Lou Fullington Trevitt; father, Don Deck Trevitt; grandmother, Beulah Olivia Deck Trevitt; grandfather, William C. Trevitt; and the mother of his sons, Annice Haygood Trevitt.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Terresa "Terye" Lucas Trevitt of Jones County; son Charles Deck (Alana) Trevitt of Macon; son Donnie Haygood (Kelly) Trevitt of Forsyth; son Carmen Deck (Barbara) Trevitt, Jr. of Forsyth; son Matthew William Trevitt of Forsyth; stepdaughter Amanda Joy (Brent) Clark of Macon; stepdaughter Caitlin Dean Durham (Daniel) Mercer of Orlando, Florida; eighteen loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14th at Monroe County Memorial Chapel, 86 West Main Street, Forsyth, Georgia. Services for Mr. Trevitt will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 15th at Forsyth Presbyterian Church, 63 North Jackson Street, Forsyth, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held at 1 PM on Monday, June 17th at West Hill Cemetery in Dalton, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Methodist Children's Home, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204.
