Carol Jean Ray-Anderson was born on April 27, 1954, and passed away on May 23, 2025. She passed peacefully at The Service League of Greenville Hospice House in Greenville, NC, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Carol Jean was born in Mount Vernon, New York to Jaunita Ray-Burton and Charles Mayhew Sr. She was educated in the Westchester County school system and attended Mount Vernon High School. Carol Jean worked as a health care worker in various Home Care roles and was employed for a brief period at Mount Vernon Hospital.
On December 15, 1988, Carol married George Anderson Sr. In 2005, they relocated their family to North Carolina, where she continued to care for them. Carol found a spiritual home in "Little Thankful Praise and Presence Ministries" under the leadership of Bishop Claudie H. Wilkins. She served diligently in this ministry for over 20 years, particularly on the Ushers Ministry until her health declined. Her love for God and her church community was evident. Carol was dedicated to her children, grandchildren, and siblings, and held her family in high regard.
Carol had a SPECIAL bond with her little brother Rick. They shared a lifelong bond second to none. As children, she cared for him with the loving attention of a big sister, and in return, as adults, Rick was always there to support her through every stage of life.
Preceding her in death is her mother, Jaunita Ray-Burton; her father, Charles Mayhew, Sr.; her brother, Roger Ray.
Surviving her are her beloved children, John Ray of Yonkers, NY, Darnell Ray of New Haven, Connecticut, Lawrence Bruce Bailey of Mount Vernon, NY, Kristine Nadine Bailey of Mount Vernon, NY, George Darrell Anderson (Quantia) of Williamston, NC, Chanicka Anderson, and Aisha Anderson of Greenville, NC; she is survived by three bonus children, Angele Perkins, Carla Latrice Fields, and Courtney Larkin; 20 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; her siblings, Michael Ray of Mount Vernon, NY, Tonsie Burton-Pope of Mount Vernon, NY, Ronald Burton of NY, Richard "Rick" Burton (Jima) of New York, Anthony Mayhew, and Kelvin Mayhew; a special godson, Nicholas Simmons, along with many family members, friends, and loved ones.
Carol Jean Ray-Anderson will be remembered for her unwavering faith, generous heart, and deep love for her family. Her legacy will continue to live on in our hearts and she will be forever cherished.
