Carol Knott Wright, 79, of Owensboro passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Morning Pointe Assisted Living in Owensboro, Kentucky after a series of stroke related illnesses. The Owensboro, Kentucky native was born on December 2, 1945, to the late William Carl Knott and Marguerite Bratcher Bell. Carol graduated from Owensboro Senior High with the class of 1964.

A 1968 and 1970 graduate from the University of Kentucky with Bachelor of Science degrees in Nursing and Physical Therapy, Carol spent her life caring for others both in her nursing career and in her free time. She was a licensed physical therapist, which allowed her to care for those in need of rehabilitation. Her career as a nurse spanned over forty years at Camp Kysoc of the Kentucky Easter Seals Society, Breckinridge County Hospital in Hardinsburg, Ky, Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Ky and finally in oncology at Owensboro Regional Health in Owensboro, Ky. Her compassionate, caring attitude towards her patients led to several awards in her nursing career including the President’s Award in 2007.

Carol’s faith was extremely important to her. She was a longtime member of Zion United Church of Christ, where she held several leadership positions and spent a great deal of time volunteering in many ministry areas.

Carol was extremely talented artistically and musically. She was an expert accordion player as well as proficient in clarinet and piano. Beginning in her early years with piano lessons and continuing through her teen years with marching band at OHS through many years at Zion playing the piano, she let her musical talent shine in a multitude of ways.

Her artistic talents were on display each year as she handmade Christmas ornaments for friends and family. Each year they waited with eager anticipation to see what she had created. During her years at the hospital, she spent a great deal of time decorating her floor for Christmas, which also led to awards for her outstanding creative talent.

Carol also loved and appreciated God’s creation in nature. Whether walking her dog in the park or simply sitting on her back porch enjoying her garden, Carol found joy and gratitude in the simplicity of nature. Thanks to the efforts of her good friend Paula, several of her unique plants from her garden found their way to the Western Kentucky Botanical Gardens where many generations to come will be able to enjoy their beauty.

In addition to her parents, Carol was also preceded in death by stepfather, Thomas Bell and her stepsister Susie Basham. Those left to cherish her memory are her brother Al Bell and wife Lisa of Lewisburg, Tennessee, nieces Adrienne Parks and husband Steven of Cottontown, Tennessee and Deanna Bell of Shelbyville, Tennessee, stepmother Margie Knott of Owensboro, along with several other cousins and nephews and many life-long friends.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Morning Pointe especially Karleigh, Vanessa and Sabrina and Cornerstone Owensboro, especially Natalie, Shanah and Shannon for the compassionate care they provided Carol in her last months.

Per Carol’s wishes, there will be no public memorial ceremony. Final care is entrusted with Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Messages and condolences to the family can be shared at www.glenncares.com.
