Carol A. Yakel of Waukesha passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the age of 90 surrounded by her two children, Lynda and Scott. She was born in Milwaukee on October 14, 1934 the only child of Lawrence and Edythe (Buer) Schwinn. On October 13, 1956 she married Robert “Bob” Yakel at St. Matthias Catholic Church; he preceded her in death on August 23, 2013. Carol enjoyed golfing, being at the lake, boating, bowling, and fishing. She was an avid reader of the newspaper.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter Lynda (Mike) Baumann of Waukesha; her son Robert Scott (Jeanne) Yakel of Platteville, CO; her grandchildren, Amie (Jay) Humbert, Ashley (Daniel) Steinbrecher, Michelle (Christopher) Haines, and Technical Sergeant USAF Nikolaus (Talia) Yakel and great-grandchildren, James, William, Cole, Ellie, Hadley, Beckham, and Cody.
Carol attended St. Lawrence School until 1948 and graduated from Mercy High School in 1952. She was active in the drum and bugle core all through high school. Throughout her life she shared many stories of her years at Mercy, always with affection for that time of her life. In fact, up until her health failed, she had monthly luncheons with some of her remaining classmates.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Corpus Christi Parish-St. Mary Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave Waukesha, WI 53186 from 11:00 AM until the funeral Mass at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorials to Corpus Christi Parish School are appreciated.
