Carole F. (Fry) Agnello

Carole Agnello loved life and the people in it. She adored her children and grandchildren, was devoted to them and supported them throughout their lives putting their needs before her own. She humbly boasted about their achievements, although she was the driving force behind them. Her love, positive energy and radiant smile extended far beyond her family and touched the whole town of Weston. She was not only actively involved with the schools during her children's lives, but again during her grandchildren's lives getting to know the families and teachers, volunteering, and being present at every event from poetry readings, concerts and art shows to the sidelines of soccer, tennis, baseball, softball, and hockey games. She was the first to offer a helping hand to you whether she knew you for a lifetime or a day. Her home was always open and welcoming to anyone, offering a kind word and always a bite to eat. Carole Fry was born on August 3, 1941 in Lebanon, Tennessee a daughter of the late Carl and Marie (Thackston) Fry. A graduate of Donelson High School in Tennessee she then graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University. Graduate work in physiology at Vanderbilt University afforded an introduction to a young medical intern and Brooklyn, New York native Dr. Vincent Agnello. They married on June 26, 1965 in Donelson Methodist Church. After years in New Jersey and New York City, they moved to Massachusetts where they have made Weston their home since 1973 and remarried at St. Julia's Church in order for Carole to convert to Catholicism in 1980. She gave up her PhD pursuits to become a full time wife and mother, a job she excelled at like no other. After raising her four children, she worked as a Benefits Analyst for Blue Cross Blue Shield where she met lifelong friends that she treasured. An active member of the Weston Council on Aging, she cherished her friendships from her weekly bridge games and kept active as well with gardening, cooking, Mahjong, crossword puzzles and Sudoku. She loved teaching her grandchildren how to play cards, hosting family dinners and enjoying one of Cathy's signature cosmopolitans. Despite her hearing impairment she was a fabulous dancer and she and Vince would be the first on the dance floor at any event. Due to the lack of social events during the pandemic she took up learning Tik Tok dances with her grandkids. She was also cherished by her many pets over the years including dogs, cats and even a rooster. She took every opportunity to take care of her "grandpets" in the more recent years who all had a special affinity for her. In addition to her husband of 56 years, Dr. Vincent Agnello, she leaves her children, Dr. Peter F. Agnello (Deanna) of Tampa, Florida, Catherine L. Burns (Dwight) of Weston, Dr. Andrea A. Pettinato (Paul) of Weston and Dr. Carl F. Agnello (Melissa Proulx) of Northbridge; her grandchildren, Samantha and Jacqueline Burns, Mark, Isabella, Andrew and Dominic Pettinato and Jackson Agnello. Sister of the late Linda Bloom; also survived by her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Carole died on Monday, July 5, 2021 at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston from an unexpected complication from a recently diagnosed Myelodysplastic Syndrome. She was 79. Family and friends will honor and remember Carole's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, July 11th from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Monday morning at Saint Julia's Church, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.
