Catherine McVicker Obituary

Catherine Louise McVicker

Catherine Louise McVicker, 92 years young, played her final inning of life on April 30, 2024. Louise was born on August 2, 1931, to Ted and Florence Henry in Pottstown, PA. She was raised in Holland, Ohio, with her sister, Mary. Louise excelled in school and was very involved in extracurricular activities. She graduated Salutatorian of her class and received a scholarship to The University of Toledo. It was at Monclova High School that she met the love of her life, Jimmy (Minnie) McVicker. Soon after graduating, they married in 1950 and started their family. In 1960, Louise and Jim began their lifelong business, The McVicker Insurance Agency while raising their family of 5 children in Whitehouse, Ohio. Never one to sit still, Louise was endlessly involved in her community and church. She was a leader in many school boosters, 4-H, and placement coordinator for Youth for Understanding where she also hosted 13 exchange students in her and Jim's home. Louise's faith was central to her life, and she committed a lifetime of service to Hope United Methodist Church and countless mission trips. Because of these church programs, many unfortunate youths came to live with the McVicker family. Through a church refugee program, Mi Chau (Max) from Vietnam became a part of the family. Sports were also a big part of Louise's life and she loved to play tennis and golf and participate in Senior Olympics. Diehard baseball fans and a Mud Hens Diamond Club membership led to many Mud Hens ball players living with Louise and Jim. Louise loved traveling and learning about other cultures. She traveled the world and could not wait till her next trip. Her last big trip culminated in a trip of a lifetime visiting all 30 M.L.B. ballparks with her grandson, Mitch. Louise will always be remembered for her lifetime of service to others. Her true legacy will be her zest for life and never giving up. Her motto: "Choose Joy" symbolized how she lived her life. Her truest source of joy was her family. She would drive anywhere to see her kids, grandkids and greats.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents; daughter. Becky; husband. Jim; grandson. Landon; and sister. Mary. She is survived by daughter. Laurie (Bill); sons, Jim (Janet), Scott (Sherry), Andy, and Max. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home located at 7220 Dutch Road, Waterville, Ohio.
