Catherine M. Nierman, age 66, of Rochester, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her home on March 23, 2024.
Catherine Maria Cavey was born on August 31, 1957 in Maquoketa, Iowa to Charlotte and Donald Cavey. She enjoyed her large Christian family of 9, and afterschool sports including gymnastics, swimming, and cheerleading. She graduated Mayo H.S. in 1975 and married Ricky Joe Nierman on June 12, 1976. They were blessed with 3 wonderful sons (Scott, Shawn, and Mikey). She enjoyed playing softball for many years as the boys were growing up, as well as motorcycle riding, camping, and vacations up north. She also loved attending her boys practice and games for baseball and football, wrestling, and Boy Scouts. Cathy was involved with A.B.A.T.E. (American Bikers for Awareness, Training, & Education) and helped put on the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program in Rochester for 14 years. She was always passionate about helping those less fortunate. Cathy loved gardening, reading, sports, camping, riding, animals, music, garage sales, and spending time with family and friends. Cathy continued her education in social work and chemical dependency over the years, and worked mainly in those fields, and as a secretary, with her most recent employment being through RPS as Secretary of the SACC Program. Cathy was a faithful person and believed strongly in God. She believed in God's Will and confidently knew that he was calling her home following her courageous battle with cancer. She lived and died believing in Faith over Fear.
She leaves behind her three sons Scott (Heather) Nierman - sailing the Caribbean, Shawn Nierman of Grand Meadow, and Michael (Jessica) Nierman of Rochester, MN. She also leaves behind siblings; Ed (Glennys) Cavey of Needville TX, Debra (Bob) Dinehart of Stewartville MN, Lynda Hain of Rockport TX, Becky (Terry) Vlach of Rochester MN, and Ron (Jennifer) Cavey of Oregon OH. She was blessed with 6 grandchildren (Storme Nierman, Sabrina Thompson, Jacob Nierman, Matty Nierman, Makhala Nierman, and Jeffrey Nierman), along with numerous other family members (cousins, nieces & nephews), and many friends.
Cathy also leaves behind her faithful and beloved rescue dog Jemma.
