Catherine Heatherly Schroader, born on July 8, 1936, in Henderson County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, North Carolina, in the early morning hour on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the age of 88. Her departure was natural and serene, surrounded by the love of her devoted family.
Catherine's life was a testament to resilience and achievement. From humble beginnings, she built a remarkable career marked by perseverance and dedication. Her journey began with the successful growth of Schroader's Hatchery and Farm, a venture that laid the foundation for her later endeavors. Together with her beloved husband, Leonard, they went on to establish Schroader's Honda, a thriving business that continues to flourish under the stewardship of her son and grandsons.
Her astute leadership and business acumen were recognized beyond her own ventures; Catherine was honored to serve on the Boards of Mountain Bank and Mountain 1st Bank. Her insights and contributions were invaluable, leaving an indelible impact on the community.
Yet, above all her professional accomplishments, Catherine was most proud of her family. Her boundless love and unwavering dedication were the cornerstones of her legacy. She imparted values of hard work and determination to her children, teaching them that success is always within reach through perseverance and effort.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Grady and Vernia Babb Heatherly. Catherine was one of twelve children; eight brothers, Elmer, Lloyd, Leroy, Pete, James, Joe, Monroe, and Ripley; and three sisters, Vernia Hill, Sarah Clouse Dore, and Mary Jones, all now deceased.
She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Leonard Schroader; one son, Terry Schroader (Teresa Webb); and daughter, Vicki Schroader and her spouse, Roger Muchnick. Her grandchildren, Tori Hope and her husband, Chris Steuber, Casey Schroader, Crystal Schroader, Jesse Schroader, and Courtney Schroader, and the late Trey Hope; along with great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Corbin, Olivia, Penelope, Tripp, Grady, and Sophia; and a great-great-grandchild, Trey, will continue to cherish her memory.
The family extends special gratitude to Sarita Sigmon, Teresa Webb, and Roger Muchnick for their dedication and love throughout the years.
A funeral service to celebrate Catherine's life will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Hill officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home. A private entombment will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park's Mausoleum in Hendersonville.
Catherine, as you enter the heavens, we don't say "goodbye" but rather "see you later." What a huge presence and gift you were to this world.
