Cathy Barnes, 68, of Churubusco, passed away at her home on February 18, 2025.
She was born in Columbia City, on March 7, 1956, to the late Carlton and Florence (Broeking) Johnson. She spent her formative years in Allen County and graduated from Carroll High School.
She married Dennis Barnes at Beacon Light Chapel Church, on January 17, 1981. He preceded her in death on September 5, 2017.
A devoted mother, sister, and grandmother, Cathy was best known for her unwavering dedication to her family, especially her cherished grandchildren. She was a retired para-professional from the Smith-Green Community Schools, where she touched many lives with her kindness and dedication. Cathy had a love for games and puzzles and was an avid fan of the NFL. She enjoyed scrapbooking, watching birds, nurturing her flower gardens, and partaking in family fantasy football leagues.
Cathy is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Rickey) Malott; brothers, Tyke (Carolyn) Johnson and David (Karole) Johnson; sisters, Sue (Joe) Williams and Lori (Scott) Henning; and her grandchildren, Meranda Malott, Hadley Malott, and Brody Malott.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, with calling one hour prior to the service.
The family will also receive family and friends at the funeral home on Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Burial to take place at Eel River Cemetery, Churubusco.
Memorials may be directed to Eleos Hospice.
