Cecil Edward Day Sr., 84, of Gaylord, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born on October 23, 1940, in Mancelona, the son of Carl and Gladys (Tink) Day.

After high school, Cecil proudly served in the United States Army. He returned to Northern Michigan where he owned and operated several gas stations in Traverse City for several years. He then moved to Grand Rapids and was employed at Pridgeon & Clay for 10 years before retiring to Gaylord.

Cecil loved spending time in God’s creation; he liked deer hunting, searching for morels, fishing, and anything else that got him outside. He also enjoyed bowling in his younger days. Cecil was a longtime member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and donated much of his time over the years doing whatever he could to help the church.

Cecil is survived by four children, Cecil E. Jr. (Sarah) Day of Johannesburg, MI, Sheryl (Kevin) Chandler of Cedar, MI, John Day of Gaylord, and Lisa (Alan) Laskey of Cedar, MI; his sister, Lydia Sayers of Afton, MI; numerous grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Floyd, Forest, Bill, Carl, Vercil, Thomas, and Marvin; and his sisters, Alice Olson, Helen Lucas, Marion Weisler, and Laura Koons.

A graveside service with military honors will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, at Fairview Cemetery in Mancelona

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Gaylord.

Arrangements are in the care of the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign his online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com
