CECILIA B. COOK
AKWESASNE- Cecilia B. Cook, 95, of 343 State Route 37, peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at the Tsiionkwanonhso:te Adult Care Facility on Cornwall Island.
Cecilia was born on May 10, 1930, in St. Regis, QC, daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Smoke) Swamp. She attended St. Regis Mohawk school and married John A. Cook in October 1952 in Syracuse. John predeceased her on December 17, 1991
She was a communicant of the St. Regis Catholic Church, a member of the American Legion Post #1479 Auxiliary and the St. Regis Senior Citizens group. Cecilia worked as a waitress at The Lake Placid Club in Lake Placid, and on the assembly line for GE in Syracuse, before working and retiring from the Massena Central School transportation department.
Cecilia enjoyed playing cards, bingo and trips to the casino. She travelled the east coast, as well as California, Arizona and Florida. Family was her number one priority, and she took great pride in raising her seven children. She was an outstanding cook and also was a taxi for many relatives and friends. She spoke Mohawk fluently and was very proud of her Mohawk culture.
She is survived by her five children, Dorothy (Simon) Cole of Hogansburg; Janet (Richard) Caldwell of Cornwall Island; Charlotte Cook of Cornwall Island; Carmen (Dale) Shaver of Cornwall; and Daniel Cook of Hogansburg; a daughter in-law, Sally Ann Cook,16 grandchildren, Tesia (Dari), Ashley (Adam), Allison (Matt), Jason (Lacey), Dana (Tracy), Jonathan, Jennifer (Clayton), Adam (Deidre), Aaron, Ausitn, Brian (Loretta), Lindsay (Frank), Carson, Jodi (Lawrence), Jessi (Trevin) and Carter (Lydia); 23 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents Paul and Mary, and her husband John, she was also predeceased by her daughter Wanda A. Cook on May 29, 2004; her son Austin John Cook on October 21, 1999; her siblings Thomas K. Swamp and Irene King, one grandson Lee Joseph Cole and one great grandson Landon Christopher Day.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home on Thursday 1-5PM. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at the Donaldson Funeral Home with Mark Garrow officiating.
Donations may be made in Cecilia's memory to Tsiionkwanonhso:te Adult Care Facility or Iakhihsohtha Home for the Elderly.
