Chadd Conyers
July 27, 1938-July 7, 2025
Matthew 22:35-39: One of them, an expert in the law, tested Jesus with this question, "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself."
Chadd passed away peacefully in our home on Monday morning, July 7, 2025. I will love you forever my sweet husband.
Chadd Conyers was born into the world on July 27, 1938, the first child of James Roland and Christina Dean Conyers. He was later joined by his sisters Sharon and Becky. They grew up in Independence, MO on a little farm on 35th street, which was then on the edge of town. Chadd remembered happy times on that farm, milking their only cow, Dolly, picking on his sisters, and getting chased by Sharon wielding a hoe after he snapped her with a bullwhip!
While growing up Chadd participated in 4H and Boy Scouts, obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended William Chrisman High and graduated in May of 1956. Occasionally, while he was walking to school, Chadd remembered being greeted by President Truman.
Chadd served in the United States Army, in both active duty and reserves. He was honorably discharged on April 30, 1964. He attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Missouri, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education in May of 1969.
Chadd really didn't like change, so that is probably why his work history includes many and varied jobs. For awhile he drove for Yellow Freight; he worked in a factory, he took pictures for church directories; and along with his then wife, Linda, he owned a cleaning business, as well as an Amway business. He even sold Kirby vacuums. For his last job he drove between Independence and Joplin delivering paperwork for a bank.
Chadd loved God. He was baptized into the Community of Christ (formerly Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) as a youngster and was later ordained a Deacon. He was also a member of Unity. He spent a great deal of time studying the scriptures and he read a lot of spiritually based "good books". He considered himself a student of A Course in Miracles, and drew upon many spiritual disciplines, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, and of course, Christianity. He said he liked all religions. Chadd spent much time in prayer and meditation. He often said to God, and himself, the Hawaiian prayer, "Ho'oponopono-- I'm sorry, forgive me. Thank you. I love you."
Chadd loved people. He liked to say, "To love is to allow total freedom." He often struggled to be that person -the person who allows others to be and to do as they want to be and do, especially with his wife!
Chadd liked the quiet life of meditation, soft music, and silence. But he also liked to laugh. Everyone he knew or met got one of his little jokes. The first one I heard from him went like this: "What do you call a nun who walks in her sleep?" And when you didn't know, he would grin and say, "A Roman Catholic"!
Chadd's favorite TV shows included "The Voice", "America's Got Talent", and ''NCIS". And he loved Hallmark movies-- he would wait for the "almost kiss"and say, "I wonder what the interruption will be this time." Then it
happened, every time-- they never, ever, completed that first kiss! But our life together was not a Hallmark movie and we completed many kisses, several a day, in fact, for over 26 years!
Chadd is survived by his wife, Judy, daughters Sarah Beth Thompson (Matt) and Suzanne Strein, son Matthew Conyers; grandchildren, Jane Thompson, Sam Thompson, Harry Thompson, and Olive Strein; Judy's sons, Brett Simpkins (Steve), Barry Simpkins (Lynnette), and grandchildren, Joshua Simpkins and Leila Simpkins.
