Charles Curtis Buckman, 86, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 27th 2025. Charles was born on September 16th, 1938 in Marion County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Willard and Christine Beavin Buckman and his loving wife and lifelong partner of 61 years, Gwendolyn Rita Lee; an infant son, Francis Mark Buckman lost at birth; sisters, Helen Cissell and Geraldine Cissell; brothers, Harod Buckman, JC Buckman and Fabian Buckman; sisters in law, Regina Buckman, and Myrtle Buckman; and brothers in law, Bobby Cissell and Big Joe Lee. Survivors include his three children, Retired Colonel Lindy Buckman (US Army), Kirk (Julie) Buckman, and Rick Buckman; brothers, Ronald Buckman and Bernard "Peanut" Buckman; sisters in law, Janet Lee and Polly Anastaio; and two very special nephews who were like grandsons, Lee Jones and his farming buddy, Bradley Jones. Charles was born and raised on the family farm in Marion County, KY and that farm was his passion. He and his brother bought that farm and he was a very dedicated weekend farmer all the way up to the point where he could no longer make the 90 minute drive. He was an active and almost a founding member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church for over 60 years. Charles was a soft spoken, loving and caring husband, father, son, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was a true provider who worked long hard hours to raise a healthy happy family in a safe and nurturing home. When his turn came, Charles enlisted in the US Army for a two year tour. He readily claimed that he was the best Specialist Four in the Signal Corps. He was stationed in Karlsrhue, Germany where he hung signal lines. This country boy did attend the World's Fair in Brussels, Belgium. His future wife, Gwen, waited for him and they were married upon his discharge and return home. It was then that Charles began his lifelong journey with Gwen to raise three pretty good kids. Charles worked his entire life driving local semi-trailer trucks and working on the loading dock. He drove for Coca-Cola, OK Trucking, and TNT Holland. He did not know how to not work. After retiring he joined a volunteer crew and spent years building houses for Habitat for Humanity. Charles found his true calling the day that Benjamin Curtis Buckman, his first grandchild, was born followed by Meagan and Jake Buckman. These three kids are now fine adults were his and Gwen's world. He was very involved in their lives and he knew and loved them just as importantly they knew and loved him. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Thursday, May 29th and 9 – 9:30 AM Friday, May 30th at Joseph E. Ratterman & Son Funeral Home, 7336 Southside Drive. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, May 30 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 7335 Southside Drive, with burial to follow at Little St. Joe Cemetery, 3300 St. Joe Rd., Raywick, KY.
