Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bordentown Home for Funerals on Oct. 1, 2025.
Charles "Tootie" Cloutier was born on April 15, 1940, to Katherine Winchester and Charles Edward Cloutier in Fieldsboro, New Jersey. He took his last breath on July 14, 2024, after living an incredibly full life.
Struggles for Charles started at the age of two when his father gave the ultimate sacrifice storming Normandy Beach on D-Day. He, his mom and his Sis formed an incredible bond because of this tragedy. Charles became the provider for his family and did so with pride. His life took an unexpected turn for the better when he met his forever love. Charles and Barbara married on May 28, 1960, at the young ages of 20 and 19. He enlisted and served for his country as a Corporal in the United States Army.
They spent many years just being a happy married couple before they brought an amazing boy into the world. Mark blessed them with so much happiness and joy. A few years later, a baby girl was added to the family. The Cloutier family was complete with the addition of Kristen.
Days were spent watching both of their children play sports. Eating in the car was a daily task with a massive push to sit down whenever they could and eat as a simple family of four. Fishing trips on his boat, Disney vacations driving his reliable station wagon while his kids played games in the back and mom had the map spread across her lap, swimming in Aunt Sis's pool executing the best cannonball known to mankind, Elks pig roasts often dressing as the clown, June Wildwood weekends parading with his Hightstown Elks Lodge 1955, WWE wrestling matches on the tv, watching the Phils and Birds always doting his favorite team's hat, making his favorite meal: tomato gravy which we all came to love as much as he did, listening to work stories often sad but the funny ones are the ones that we will remember because of his infectious laugh, and family gatherings were what kept his massive heart pumping.
His life was then enriched when his children found their forevers. Kristen married Bill and Mark married Donna. Soon after, his world exploded with the birth of his reasons for getting up every morning. Alex and Ethan provided purpose and a new sense of living. His days were spent playing on the floor with his two new best buds. He devoted his time to chasing them around the backyard and rocking them to sleep to eventually being their biggest soccer cheerleader.
Charles spent 43 years as a burial vault installer for Campbell Burial Vaults. He was a dedicated employee who often went above and beyond his job description. He was a proud member of the American Legion out of Fieldsboro, NJ. You could often find him volunteering and serving in his hometown community. Some of the most memorable times of his life were spent with the Hightstown Elks community when he served as the Exalted Ruler from 1995-1996. The friends that fostered out of this group were life lasting.
Charles promised his best friend, his sister, Ruth Hewitt, a "see you later" on May 7, 1993, and we pray that she was the first soul he was greeted by when he was called home. He is survived by the love of his life, Barbara Howe Cloutier, of which he spent 64 beautiful years loving. His son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Donna Cloutier, who reside in Lakeland, Florida. His daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and Bill Lawrence, whom he lived with for the past 18 years. His cherished grandsons, Alex and Ethan Lawrence. His favorite niece and her husband, Nancy and Don Peluso. He also intends to look over his nieces, Sherri, Jamie and Nicole. We will always remember the love and laughter that he experienced with all his friends and family.
