He was born on April 16, 1945 in Galesburg, IL to the late Wayne J. Currens and Dorothy M. (Wheeler) Brooks. He married Maria Ponce on January 13,1968 in Peoria, IL. She preceded him in death on February 9, 2021.
He is also preceded in death by his son, Charles E. Currens II on October 25, 2017; his brothers, Wayne Currens and William Currens; and his step dad, Leland Brooks.
Charles is survived by his daughters, Yvette (Matthew) Hodges and Yvonne (Jeff) Bambule; his grandchildren, Josee, Juell, Jazmynn, Jaeden, Jacob, Kaylee (Leah), and Lauren; his sister, Donna (Clarence) Dillard; his Goddaughter Cecilia (Ryan) Moore; 3 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Charles was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia. He was known to frequent car shows as he had a passion for classic cars. He loved the beach and his fur babies, Sweetness and Bronny. Nothing was more important than spending time with his family, though.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The visitation will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025 from 10a-12p at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. The funeral service will begin at noon. Interment will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria, IL.
