He was born on March 18, 1951, in Peoria to Charles and Imogene Donaldson. Gene married Diana S. Creel on July 10, 1971, in East Peoria.
Gene is survived by his wife of 54 years, Diana Donaldson; daughter, Lisa (Kevin) Yoder; son, Michael (Shannon) Donaldson; grandchildren: Lizzie Donaldson, Hannah (Devin) Martinez, James (Samantha) Donaldson, and Bryan Yoder; great-granddaughter, Genevieve Martinez; sister, Verna Jennings; and brother, Gary (Becky) Donaldson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gene served in the U.S. Navy after graduating high school. He later worked at Caterpillar as a machine operator and worked there for many years before retiring.
A private graveside service will be held at Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Liberty Baptist Church, 212 E. Central St., Minier, IL 61759.
